The perpetrator stole rsETH tokens and used them as collateral in the largest lending protocol, <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/what-is-aave\">Aave<\/a>. This allowed the hacker to withdraw real assets, triggering panic and a mass exodus of funds from the system.<\/p>\n<p>According to the bank, amid concerns, users withdrew $17 billion in deposits from Aave (38% of the total volume). The number of active loans decreased by $5.5 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Jeffrey Kendrick, head of digital asset research at Standard Chartered, described the event as a test of &#8220;antifragility.&#8221; He noted that a coalition led by Aave founder Stani Kulechov allocated over $300 million to restore operations. The initiative was supported by <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/what-is-arbitrum\">Arbitrum<\/a>, ConsenSys, Mantle, and <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/what-is-lido\">Lido<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bank experts believe the crisis exposed systemic issues in DeFi:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>mismatch of asset types and liabilities within credit markets;<\/li>\n<li>risks of using complex collateral;<\/li>\n<li>vulnerability of <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/what-are-cross-chain-bridges\">cross-chain bridges<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Analysts emphasized that the situation will accelerate the transition to the fourth version of the Aave protocol and the creation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/l1-networks-to-join-ethereums-economic-zone\">&#8220;Ethereum Economic Zone&#8221;<\/a>. These updates are expected to reduce reliance on bridges, which are frequent targets for hackers.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the incident, Standard Chartered maintained its forecast for the <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/what-are-rwas-real-world-assets\">tokenized assets<\/a> market.
