They were barred from using the platform for five years and fined.<\/p>\n<p>Klein must pay $540, Enriquez $784 and Moran $6,229. The latter must also return all profits from his trades after refusing to cooperate with Kalshi\u2019s compliance department.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How the politicians responded<\/h2>\n<p>Moran said he had placed a bet deliberately to test the platform\u2019s response to insider trading. Notably, Klein is a co-author of a Minnesota <a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/MN\/bill\/SF4511\/2025\">bill<\/a> that would ban wagers on real-world outcomes such as elections and policy decisions.<\/p>\n<p>Enriquez did not comment on the incident and did not respond to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/business\/markets\/kalshi-fines-suspends-politicians-insider-trading-elections-rcna341505\">media<\/a> requests.<\/p>\n<p>In late February Kalshi <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/insiders-net-over-1m-from-zachxbt-investigation\">blocked<\/a> former California gubernatorial candidate Kyle Langford, who wagered $200 on his election victory and posted a screenshot on X. He was fined $2,000.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, YouTube editor Artem Kaptur, who had worked with creator James Donaldson (MrBeast), was also sanctioned.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Moves toward regulating prediction markets<\/h2>\n<p>On April 22nd New York governor Kathy Hochul <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2026-04\/eo_60.pdf\">signed<\/a> an executive order prohibiting state employees from betting on prediction markets. Earlier, Illinois governor J. B. Pritzker <a href=\"https:\/\/gov-pritzker-newsroom.prezly.com\/gov-pritzker-issues-executive-order-to-strengthen-state-ethics-rules-on-prediction-markets?utm_id=9b3df9b8-df49-4f8a-9f41-94ac989b64c7#attachment-b4e6ddba-a673-4b49-a63e-8d84c288b318\">issued<\/a> a similar directive.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cEnrichment through betting on inside information is corruption, pure and simple. Our actions ensure that public servants will work for the people they represent, not for personal gain,\u201d Hochul said.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>She also criticised the administration of US president Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress. According to the governor, the politicians allowed an \u201cethical Wild West\u201d to overrun prediction platforms by failing to introduce standards to guard against insider trading.<\/p>\n<p>States across America are moving to regulate such firms. In October 2025 New York authorities ordered Kalshi to cease operations\u2014the platform was operating without a sports-betting licence.<\/p>\n<p>Kalshi is currently in litigation with Nevada, where a court has temporarily <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/nevada-judge-temporarily-blocks-kalshi-operating-prediction-market-state-2026-03-20\/\">blocked<\/a> its activities. The regulator deems the platform\u2019s contracts \u201cillegal gambling\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Coinbase\u2019s chief legal officer, Paul Grewal, suggested the case could reach the US Supreme Court and set a precedent for regulating prediction markets.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The questions at oral argument are an unreliable signal in predicting the leanings of a court. The market resolved in favour of the winner, who received more than $16,000.<\/p>\n<p>A similar glitch occurred on April 15th: for most of the day the station showed 18\u00b0C, then the temperature rose to 22\u00b0C and fell back again.<\/p>\n<p>Experts found the anomalies were not corroborated by data from nearby stations. One minute before the April 15th spike a trader began buying \u201cno\u201d bets on 18\u00b0C and ultimately earned more than $21,000.<\/p>\n<p>Meteorologist Ruben Hallali told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bfmtv.com\/police-justice\/info-bfmtv-polymarket-des-parieurs-ont-ils-manipule-un-capteur-de-meteo-france-pour-s-enrichir_AN-202604200715.html\">BFMTV<\/a> that such temperature jumps were unlikely to occur naturally.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cIt is likely that someone who understands how the sensors work deliberately raised the temperature by two degrees at the right moment to validate the bet,\u201d he added.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>France\u2019s meteorological agency, M\u00e9t\u00e9o France, filed a police complaint on suspicion of interference with automated data-processing systems.<\/p>\n<p>In April, the US outlet More Perfect Union <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/criticism-over-partnership-journalists-investigate-polymarket-and-kalshi\">published<\/a> an investigation into prediction markets.
