According to Nairobi technology news service TechMoran, former local Google executive Joe Mucheru, has quit Kenyan BitPesa’s managing board in order to hold a government appointment. Seeking to settle all possible conflicts of interest due to his new position in the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology, he divests his shares in a bidding process.<\/p>\n
BitPesa is a renowned African bitcoin remittance startup which has raised over $1 million last year. The service uses mobile networks to serve customers in several African countries, includinh Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Uganda.<\/p>\n
TechMoran quotes Mr. Mucheru saying: <\/p>\n
“I’ve formally resigned from the board of BitPesa and I’ve put my shares on sale. The process is ongoing.”<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
BitPesa co-founder and CEO Elizabeth Rossielo commented Mucheru’s departure to publication CoinDesk:<\/p>\n
“Joe Mucheru has been an essential part of BitPesa’s story from the beginning and we wish him all the very best on this next stage in his career.”<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Mucheru has been assigned to the position last November.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, BitPesa is in the middle of legal proceedings around the dispute between local remittance network M-Pesa’s operator Safaricom and a Kenyan payments gateway Lipisha.
