{"id":87218,"date":"2023-11-18T10:41:30","date_gmt":"2023-11-18T08:41:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=87218"},"modified":"2025-09-13T10:23:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-13T07:23:09","slug":"fidelity-files-for-spot-ethereum-etf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/fidelity-files-for-spot-ethereum-etf\/","title":{"rendered":"Fidelity files for spot Ethereum ETF"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Financial company Fidelity Investments has filed with the <span data-descr=\"U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission\" class=\"old_tooltip\">SEC<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.cboe.com\/resources\/regulation\/rule_filings\/pending\/2023\/SR-CboeBZX-2023-095.pdf\">\u0437\u0430\u044f\u0432\u043a\u0443<\/a> for the registration of an exchange-traded fund (<a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-cryptocurrency-etf\">ETF<\/a>) based on the spot price of Ethereum.<\/p>\n<p>The firm took this step following its competitor \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/blackrock-files-sec-application-for-spot-ethereum-etf\">BlackRock<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Shares of the Fidelity Ethereum Fund are expected to trade on the Cboe BZX exchange. The fund&#8217;s assets will be custodied by Fidelity Digital Assets Services.<\/p>\n<p>The firm noted that approval of such a product &#8220;would be a major victory for protecting US investors in the cryptocurrency space.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fidelity argues that in the absence of a spot ETF, those seeking to invest in cryptocurrency are forced to resort to riskier vehicles such as over-the-counter funds. As a result, investors face legal uncertainty, high management fees and potentially volatile premiums and discounts.<\/p>\n<p>The firm also drew the regulator&#8217;s attention to the fact that in European countries, including Germany, Switzerland and France, access to spot-based Ethereum exchange-traded products is already available.<\/p>\n<p>According to Fidelity, losses by American investors in failed crypto projects such as <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/ftx-group-files-for-bankruptcy-sam-bankman-fried-resigns-as-ceo\">FTX<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/celsius-files-for-bankruptcy-protection\">Celsius Network<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/blockfi-files-for-chapter-11-bankruptcy-protection\">BlockFi<\/a> would have been considerably lower if an Ethereum ETF had existed.<\/p>\n<p>The Bloomberg market analyst James Seyffart noted that the company&#8217;s filing for a spot Ethereum ETF has become the seventh.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"none\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">They are the 7th filer for spot Ethereum as far as I&#8217;m aware.
