It was led by a cryptocurrency exchange.<\/p>\n<p>In a conversation with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblock.co\/post\/254667\/anthropics-new-raise-could-mean-full-payout-for-ftx-creditors-lawyer\">The Block<\/a>, lawyer Kunchou Cai from Enlighten, who has helped more than 100 clients file their claims against the platform, confirmed the possibility of such a scenario. In his view, investors in Anthropic should be subject to a lock-up period.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;It remains unclear when management will sell its stake in the startup. Such an option may appear only in the case of <span data-descr=\"initial public offering\" class=\"old_tooltip\">IPO<\/span>, if not provided otherwise. If [Sam Bankman-Fried] invested in Anthropic personally, rather than through FTX, then those who filed suits against him separately may seek priority in payouts&#8221;,<\/em> \u2014 explained the expert.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Thomas Braziel, partner at 117 Partners and 507 Capital, specialising in buying claims against bankrupt firms, called this &#8220;great news&#8221;.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;If liabilities amount to $10 billion, [\u2026] and FTX&#8217;s investments can be valued at $3 billion, that&#8217;s 30 cents. [\u2026] It&#8217;s absolutely huge. But on paper. People should remember that&#8221;,<\/em> \u2014 the expert explained.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to Cai, the prospect of higher recoveries for FTX customers has allowed some to sell their claims to hedge funds that specialise in such deals.<\/p>\n<p>Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees Daniela Amodei and Dario Amodei. They were among those who left the company amid internal disagreements, including over cooperation with Microsoft.<\/p>\n<p>In February 2023, media reported <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/media-google-invests-300m-in-chatgpt-rival\">Google&#8217;s $300 million<\/a> investment in the startup. In May, Anthropic <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/ai-startup-anthropic-raises-450-million-from-google-and-other-investors\">attracted $450 million<\/a>. In September, Amazon <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/amazon-to-invest-up-to-4-billion-in-ai-startup-anthropic\">announced<\/a> strategic investments in the startup of up to $4 billion.<\/p>\n<p>In a March presentation, representatives of the exchange estimated the total shortfall to cover creditors&#8217; claims at <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/ftx-reports-1-6-billion-bitcoin-shortfall\">$8.7 billion<\/a>, of which about $1.6 billion was in Bitcoin. In June 2023, the platform&#8217;s current management team said it would return liquid assets <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/new-ftx-leadership-has-returned-7-billion-in-liquid-assets\">worth about $7 billion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In May, FTX filed a lawsuit against Genesis seeking <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/ftx-seeks-4-billion-from-bankrupt-genesis\">$3.9 billion<\/a> back. Subsequently, the amount of claims was reduced to $2 billion. Ultimately, the companies <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/ftx-and-genesis-settle-175-million-payment-to-alameda-research\">agreed to pay Alameda Research $175 million<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In July, lawyers <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/ftx-seeks-71-million-return-from-its-charitable-divisions\">demanded the return of $71 million<\/a> from charitable divisions affiliated with the exchange.<\/p>\n<p>In September, the court approved Robinhood&#8217;s buyback of its 55 million shares <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/robinhood-to-buy-back-55-million-shares-previously-owned-by-sam-bankman-fried-for-605-7-million\">worth $605.7 million<\/a>, which had previously belonged to the platform&#8217;s founder Sam Bankman-Fried.<\/p>\n<p>In the same month, FTX filed suit against LayerZero seeking <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/ftx-sues-layerzero-seeks-86-million\">$86 million<\/a> back.
