{"id":85100,"date":"2023-09-28T11:16:03","date_gmt":"2023-09-28T08:16:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=85100"},"modified":"2025-09-12T21:18:25","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T18:18:25","slug":"sec-delays-decision-on-ethereum-etf-applications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/sec-delays-decision-on-ethereum-etf-applications\/","title":{"rendered":"SEC delays decision on Ethereum ETF applications"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) said it would delay a decision on applications by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/files\/rules\/sro\/cboebzx\/2023\/34-98565.pdf\">21Shares<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/files\/rules\/sro\/cboebzx\/2023\/34-98566.pdf\">VanEck<\/a> to launch a spot <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-cryptocurrency-etf\">ETF<\/a> based on Ethereum.<\/p>\n<p>The regulator deemed it prudent to delay the review to allow sufficient time to study the matter.<\/p>\n<p>For 21Shares, the decision date was pushed to December 26, while for VanEck it was pushed to at least December 25.<\/p>\n<p>On September 6, ARK Invest and 21Shares <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/ark-invest-and-21shares-file-for-spot-ethereum-etf\">filed<\/a> with the SEC a proposal to launch a joint spot Ethereum <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-cryptocurrency-etf\">ETF<\/a>. If approved, the instrument would provide investors direct exposure to price movements of the second-largest cryptocurrency, with listing on CBOE BZX. On the same day, VanEck submitted a similar request.<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas noted that, while the decision on the spot Ethereum fund remains in limbo, Ether futures ETFs are highly likely (about a 90% probability) to begin rolling out in early October.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">While spot remains in limbo, Ether futures ETFs highly likely (90% odds) to start rolling out in early Oct. Balchunas suggested that Ethereum futures from some firms could hit the market early next week.<\/p>\n<p>In August, ARK Invest and 21Shares <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/ark-invest-and-21shares-file-two-ethereum-futures-etfs\">submitted<\/a> a proposal to the Commission for two Ethereum futures ETFs.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, on September 27, the SEC <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/sec-delays-ruling-on-bitcoin-etf-lawmakers-urge-immediate-action\">delayed<\/a> decisions on several applications for spot Bitcoin ETFs from ARK Invest and 21Shares until January 2024.
