{"id":84254,"date":"2023-09-11T10:24:09","date_gmt":"2023-09-11T07:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=84254"},"modified":"2025-09-12T16:16:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T13:16:14","slug":"us-authorities-seek-5-2-million-in-bitcoin-from-a-hacker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/us-authorities-seek-5-2-million-in-bitcoin-from-a-hacker\/","title":{"rendered":"US authorities seek $5.2 million in Bitcoin from a hacker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A federal court in San Francisco issued a preliminary order to seize cryptocurrency and a sports car from the hacker accused of siphoning assets from Silicon Valley companies, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/sfstandard.com\/2023\/09\/09\/feds-seize-millions-in-bitcoin-from-young-hacker-accused-of-targeting-northern-california-crypto-execs\/\">\u043c\u0435\u0441\u0442\u043d\u044b\u0435 \u0421\u041c\u0418<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the U.S. Department of Justice, from 2016 to 2018 Ahmad Wagafe Hared, known by the alias <a href=\"https:\/\/krebsonsecurity.com\/2019\/02\/more-alleged-sim-swappers-face-justice\/\">winblo<\/a>, along with two associates, used SIM-swapping to hack wallets of unnamed cryptocurrency project executives. The hackers called several victims back to extort them.<\/p>\n<p>At the time the scheme was devised, the defendant was 18 years old.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, Hared and one of his associates were arrested on charges of computer fraud, theft of personal data and extortion. A verdict in that case has not yet been issued.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities are seeking to seize 119.8 BTC ($5.2 million at the time of the order) and 93 420 <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/what-are-the-stellar-blockchain-and-the-xlm-cryptocurrency\">XLM<\/a> ($11,770). In addition, he must surrender the 2017 BMW i8 car purchased with proceeds of the theft.
