For these purposes the exchange raised $57 million, according to filings with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/1986579\/000198657923000002\/xslFormDX01\/primary_doc.xml\"><span data-descr=\"Securities and Exchange Commission\" class=\"old_tooltip\">SEC<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Informed sources told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2023\/09\/05\/coinbase-creates-new-crypto-lending-service-geared-toward-large-investors\/\"> CoinDesk<\/a> that to obtain a loan borrowers must provide collateral above the amount borrowed.<\/p>\n<p>The new service differs from<a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/coinbase-abandons-crypto-savings-accounts-plan-after-sec-threat\"> the Lend program, which was rolled back in 2021<\/a> and designed for retail customers. A similar category of investors could also borrow against Bitcoin in the Borrow service, which the platform<a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/coinbase-to-halt-bitcoin-backed-lending-via-borrow\"> halted in May 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cUnder the new service, institutions can provide Coinbase&#8217;s digital assets on standardized terms within a product that falls under an exemption from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Regulation_D_(SEC)\"><em>Regulation D<\/em><\/a>,\u201d<\/em> \u2014 according to company representatives.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The platform will fill the niche vacated after the exits of Celsius Network<\/a>, BlockFi<\/a> and Genesis Global<\/a>, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-09-05\/coinbase-coin-launches-crypto-lending-program-for-institutional-investors\"> Bloomberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In April, Bitstamp<a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/bitstamp-launches-lending-service-in-europe-hong-kong-and-the-uae\"> unveiled<\/a> an institutional-focused lending service for large-cap coins, aimed at certain markets in Europe, Hong Kong and the UAE.
