{"id":82650,"date":"2023-08-04T17:02:10","date_gmt":"2023-08-04T14:02:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=82650"},"modified":"2025-09-12T06:20:50","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T03:20:50","slug":"hong-kong-proposes-linking-local-crypto-exchanges-with-mainland-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/hong-kong-proposes-linking-local-crypto-exchanges-with-mainland-china\/","title":{"rendered":"Hong Kong proposes linking local crypto exchanges with mainland China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hong Kong legislator Johnny Ng Kit-chong, in an interview<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepaper.cn\/newsDetail_forward_24097251\"> The Paper<\/a>, proposed examining the idea of linking licensed digital-asset platforms to exchanges in Shanghai.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, this is implemented for traditional assets under the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect programme \u2014 qualified Chinese investors have access to stocks on the Hong Kong Exchange, and vice versa.<\/p>\n<p>The legislator expressed hope that the option would be put up for discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Ng Ki-chong cited provincial initiatives <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/china-launches-a-state-platform-to-develop-the-metaverse\">to develop metaverses<\/a> and noted the potential to expand the exchange of talent between the Special Administrative Region and the rest of China.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier Ng Ki-chong<a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/hong-kong-invites-coinbase-to-switch-jurisdiction\"> invited<\/a> Coinbase and other digital-asset platforms to Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2023, the Financial Secretary of the Special Administrative Region Paul Chan said of <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/hong-kong-signals-commitment-to-developing-the-crypto-industry\">the readiness of the jurisdiction to welcome cryptocurrency companies<\/a> from around the world. The official noted that authorities had recently completed work on a licensing regime for the industry.<\/p>\n<p>In April the High Court of Hong Kong <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/hong-kong-court-classifies-digital-assets-as-property\">recognised digital assets as property<\/a>.
