The defendant was also barred from trading on any markets under the jurisdiction of <span data-descr=\"U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission\" class=\"old_tooltip\">CFTC<\/span> and from registering with the agency.<\/p>\n<p>According to court documents, in 2020 Ackerman <span class=\"old_tooltip-placeholder\">\u201c<\/span>ran a fraudulent scheme that extorted and misappropriated funds for allegedly trading digital assets<span class=\"old_tooltip-placeholder\">\u201d<\/span>. More than 150 individuals and entities transferred about $33 million to the defendant.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cHowever, less than $10 million was used for trading, and the remaining funds were misappropriated for personal use or to extend the fraudulent trading scheme,\u201d the CFTC said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ackerman deliberately and falsely claimed that he traded cryptocurrency and earned about 15% monthly.
