{"id":76975,"date":"2023-04-10T18:05:42","date_gmt":"2023-04-10T15:05:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=76975"},"modified":"2025-09-10T20:32:49","modified_gmt":"2025-09-10T17:32:49","slug":"crypto-community-criticises-nyt-article-on-bitcoin-mining","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/crypto-community-criticises-nyt-article-on-bitcoin-mining\/","title":{"rendered":"Crypto Community Criticises NYT Article on Bitcoin Mining"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On April 9, The New York Times (NYT) published an article titled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/04\/09\/business\/bitcoin-mining-electricity-pollution.html\">Real Costs of the Digital Bitcoin Race<\/a>, which drew criticism from supporters of the first cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n<p>The authors argue that mining is accompanied by &#8220;insatiable appetites&#8221; for electricity and consumes as much energy as all residential homes in New York.<\/p>\n<p>An <a href=\"https:\/\/ru.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%D0%AD%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%BB%D0%BE%D0%B3%D0%B8%D1%87%D0%B5%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%B5,_%D1%81%D0%BE%D1%86%D0%B8%D0%B0%D0%BB%D1%8C%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B5_%D0%B8_%D0%BA%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%BF%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B0%D1%82%D0%B8%D0%B2%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B5_%D1%83%D0%BF%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%B2%D0%BB%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%B5\">ESG<\/a>-standard expert Daniel Batten stated that the NYT article overstates the actual use of fossil fuels in mining the asset.
