The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/hong-kongs-crypto-ambitions-get-a-boost-from-u-s-crackdown-b3183117\">The Wall Street Journal<\/a> reported Kaiko chief Ambre Soubiran said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cToday, the United States is tougher on cryptocurrencies than ever, and Hong Kong&#8217;s regulation appears more favorable, clearly tilting the center of gravity of crypto asset investment and trading in its direction. We want to be where our clients are,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to Soubiran, Kaiko plans to set up a team in Hong Kong, including access to Chinese institutional investors.<\/p>\n<p>Crypto exchange Bybit also intends to organise part of its operations in the city-state. According to WSJ, more than 20 industry companies told the government about plans to open branches in Hong Kong, and another 80 expressed interest in doing so.<\/p>\n<p>In February Kraken <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/kraken-to-pay-30-million-to-settle-sec-charges\">settled the charges<\/a>, brought by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The trading platform agreed to wind down its <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/what-is-staking-and-how-to-make-money-from-it\">staking<\/a> program and pay $30 million in penalties.<\/p>\n<p>In March, the American bitcoin exchange Coinbase <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/sec-issues-wells-notice-to-coinbase\">received a notice from the SEC<\/a> regarding an investigation into its listing procedure on the platform and its products \u2014 Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Wallet and the staking service Coinbase Earn.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the month the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/cftc-files-suit-against-binance-and-changpeng-zhao\">filed a lawsuit against Binance and its CEO Changpeng Zhao<\/a>. The agency contends that the platform violated derivatives trading rules by operating without proper registration.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the cryptocurrency exchange Bittrex <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/bittrex-to-wind-down-u-s-operations\">announced the winding down of its activities<\/a> in the United States due to \u201cregulatory uncertainty\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In October 2022, the Hong Kong Bureau of Financial Services and the Treasury published a statement on <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/hong-kong-eases-crypto-regulation-and-revises-stance-on-bitcoin-etfs\">the relaxation of crypto restrictions<\/a> and a readiness to cooperate with virtual asset service providers.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2023, Hong Kong&#8217;s Financial Secretary Paul Chan said the jurisdiction <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/hong-kong-signals-commitment-to-developing-the-crypto-industry\">was ready to welcome cryptocurrency companies from around the world<\/a>.
