Google’s management has asked staff to participate in testing and correct Bard’s inaccurate responses generated by the Bard conversational AI. CNBC<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

According to the publication, Prabhakar Ragavan, the company’s vice president of search, sent staff a corresponding letter. The executive asked them to help ensure that its new competitor to ChatGPT provides correct answers.<\/p>\n

The email contained a link to a page with instructions on how to fix responses during internal Bard testing. Staff were advised to rewrite answers on topics they are knowledgeable about.<\/p>\n

\u201cBard learns best from example, [\u2026] if you spend time on thoughtful corrections, this will help us improve the product\u201d, \u2014 the document states.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Earlier reports indicated that Google CEO Sundar Pichai asked staff to devote two to four hours of their time to the chatbot. He acknowledged, \u201cthis will be a long road.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ragavan echoed the CEO’s view.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWe feel a strong responsibility to get this right. Your participation in testing will help accelerate the model’s training and test its throughput (not to mention that trying Bard is actually quite fun!),\u201d wrote the vice president.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Under Google’s rules, staff must write \u201cpolite, informal and accessible.\u201d Responses must be \u201cfirst-person\u201d and maintain \u201can unbiased, neutral tone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Testers must not create stereotypes. They must \u201cavoid assumptions based on race, nationality, gender, age, religion or similar categories.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cDo not describe Bard as a personality, do not hint at emotions and do not claim that it has experiences similar to human ones,\u201d the document says.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The leadership also instructed staff to give a \u201cthumbs-down\u201d to responses offering \u201clegal, medical, financial advice.\u201d The same rule applies to responses that incite hate or are insulting.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cDon\u2019t try to rewrite this; our team will deal with it,\u201d the document says.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

According to Ragavan, to encourage staff to test Bard and leave feedback, participants will receive a \u201cMoma\u201d badge displayed in corporate profiles.<\/p>\n

The ten best testers will be invited to a meeting with the developers, where they can share their experiences of interacting with the chatbot.<\/p>\n

\u201cHeartfelt thanks to the teams that have worked hard on this behind the scenes,\u201d Ragavan wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The company did not comment on the letter.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Google unveiled the Bard conversational AI<\/a>, which it plans to integrate into its search service.<\/p>\n
