{"id":74135,"date":"2023-02-15T16:06:41","date_gmt":"2023-02-15T14:06:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=74135"},"modified":"2025-09-09T18:21:18","modified_gmt":"2025-09-09T15:21:18","slug":"korean-regulators-eye-staking-services-reports-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/korean-regulators-eye-staking-services-reports-say\/","title":{"rendered":"Korean Regulators Eye Staking Services, Reports Say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Financial regulators in South Korea will study <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/what-is-staking-and-how-to-make-money-from-it\">staking<\/a> services on local bitcoin exchanges, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news1.kr\/articles\/4953061\">News 1<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the publication, the regulators&#8217; interest was sparked by recent <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/kraken-to-pay-30-million-to-settle-sec-charges\">enforcement actions<\/a> by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) against the relevant Kraken exchange platform.<\/p>\n<p>A News 1 official who spoke to us confirmed that the regulators&#8217; attention relates to \u201cevents abroad.\u201d However, he noted that Korean exchanges \u201cdid not participate in actions that could be construed as asset management for profit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A sector research group in South Korea drew attention to two points that guided the SEC:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The staking service was deemed an unregistered securities offering by the U.S. regulator;<\/li>\n<li>The pooling of staking into a common pool promised higher returns than individual operations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Experts noted that, despite the similarities between staking and earning interest on a bank deposit, there is a key difference.
