The information is reported by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-02-08\/cryptocurrency-exchange-kraken-faces-probe-by-sec-over-unregistered-securities\"> Bloomberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A source did not specify whether the claims relate to a particular product or token.<\/p>\n<p>The process is at an advanced stage. An agreement between Kraken and the regulator could be announced in the coming days.<\/p>\n<p>The agency reminded that in December the SEC Chair Gary Gensler warned crypto firms about shortening the runway for their registration with the agency.<\/p>\n<p>Investigations do not always lead to enforcement actions, but may result in fines or other sanctions, Bloomberg notes.<\/p>\n<p>According to CoinGecko, 215 crypto assets have been listed on the platform. Staking is available to users.<\/p>\n<p>In November 2022, Kraken agreed to pay a <span data-descr=\"Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), U.S. Department of the Treasury\" class=\"old_tooltip\">OFAC<\/span> settlement of $362,000<a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/kraken-to-pay-362000-for-iran-sanctions-violations\"> for violations<\/a> U.S. sanctions against Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the head of the SEC<a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/sec-chief-says-the-cryptocurrency-market-is-centralised\"> admitted<\/a> that most crypto exchanges violate securities laws by listing unregistered investment contracts.<\/p>\n<p>In July last year, it became known<a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/bloomberg-sec-opens-investigation-into-coinbase-activity\"> that Coinbase<\/a> was under investigation over possible provision to U.S. residents of access to trading digital assets that could be deemed securities.<\/p>\n<p>Last year the Commission brought<a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/in-2022-the-sec-increased-its-crypto-enforcement-caseload-by-50\"> 30 cases<\/a> related to cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n<p>Cornerstone Research suggested that oversight of the industry will remain a <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/gensler-calls-for-tighter-oversight-of-the-cryptocurrency-industry\">priority<\/a> for the SEC under Gensler.
