The beauty of markets is that people can express their own opinions. If one person does not like Bitcoin, he does not need to buy it,\u201d Peirce explained.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The official pointed to the need for independent analysis of the risks and benefits of assets. In her view, people should be free to make investment decisions.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe role of the SEC is not to come and say: \u201cThis is good, and this is bad.\u201d [\u2026] Congress could provide clarity on many issues. You see that regulators are running around trying to exert influence in this space, but it would be better if Congress said: \u201cThis is the framework we want,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Peirce.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In 2021 she <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/hester-peirce-urges-sec-to-engage-with-the-crypto-industry\">urged the Commission<\/a> to work with crypto companies to create a &#8220;sensible framework&#8221; for oversight.<\/p>\n<p>Later the official <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/hester-peirce-criticises-sec-chair-over-cryptocurrency-stance\">criticised<\/a> the head of the SEC, Gary Gensler, for his stance on digital assets, and <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/hester-peirce-questions-the-usefulness-of-the-howey-test-in-classifying-cryptocurrencies\">doubted<\/a> the usefulness of the Howey test in classifying cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2023, Peirce said that the community and the regulators <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/hester-peirce-urges-crypto-industry-to-learn-lessons-from-an-awful-2022\">should draw lessons<\/a> from the problems the industry has faced.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The US Congress should accelerate the development of a regulatory framework for the cryptocurrency industry.
