{"id":71424,"date":"2022-12-14T10:16:27","date_gmt":"2022-12-14T08:16:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=71424"},"modified":"2025-09-08T08:46:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T05:46:10","slug":"cftc-sues-sam-bankman-fried","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/cftc-sues-sam-bankman-fried\/","title":{"rendered":"CFTC sues Sam Bankman-Fried"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) <a href=\\\"https:\/\/assets.bwbx.io\/documents\/users\/iqjWHBFdfxIU\/rMZxB_xGUGQY\/v0\\\">filed a lawsuit<\/a> against FTX and Alameda Research founder Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) for violations of the Commodity Exchange Act.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>Both entities are named as defendants in the filing.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>According to the CFTC, Bankman-Fried \u201cowned, controlled and operated\u201d the centralized FTX exchange and its affiliates, including Alameda.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>The regulator alleges that the defendants unlawfully used client funds for personal consumption and to extract value. SBF and FTX executives allegedly took hundreds of millions of dollars from Alameda in \u201cundocumented loans\u201d to purchase luxury real estate, political contributions and other non\u2011intended uses.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\">\n<p>\u201cUnder Bankman-Fried&#8217;s direction, FTX management created in the exchange\u2019s core code features that effectively gave Alameda an unlimited line of credit on the platform,\u201d the suit says.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>The CFTC noted that the affiliate was a leading market maker on the exchange. In the regulator\u2019s view, FTX management created exceptions to trading rules that gave Alameda \u201cunfair advantages\u201d in executing trades.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>The commission seeks monetary penalties for the defendants, a ban on conducting business, and the reimbursement of legal costs and other expenses as the court deems appropriate.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>On November 11, FTX Group, which also includes Alameda, <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/ftx-group-files-for-bankruptcy-sam-bankman-fried-resigns-as-ceo\">filed for bankruptcy<\/a>.
