The report comes from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblock.co\/post\/190422\/miamis-mayor-says-hes-still-taking-paycheck-in-bitcoin\">The Block<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI just bought a little [Bitcoin] yesterday,\u201d he said at the MiamiWeb3 summit.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In November 2021, Su\u00e1rez <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/miami-mayor-outlines-plans-to-take-salary-entirely-in-bitcoin\">announced<\/a> plans to become the first politician in the United States to be paid entirely in digital gold. He made the statement a week before Bitcoin hit an all-time high <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/bitcoin-price-hits-all-time-high-at-69000\">at $69,000<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the price of the first cryptocurrency has fallen by more than a factor of four. At the time of writing the asset was trading around $17,100 with a market cap of about $329 billion, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/en\/coins\/bitcoin\">CoinGecko<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Su\u00e1rez explained that the Miami mayor&#8217;s salary is not his sole source of income. He also earns as a lawyer and investor.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWe must remember that this is a new technology. Not every iteration will be successful. Not every company will succeed,\u201d added Su\u00e1rez.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Against the backdrop of <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/ftx-group-files-for-bankruptcy-sam-bankman-fried-resigns-as-ceo\">the FTX crisis<\/a> he also called for active regulation that would protect retail investors from fraud, but not harm the nascent crypto industry.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the Miami-Dade County authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblock.co\/post\/186209\/miami-to-yank-ftx-name-from-iconic-downtown-stadium\">\u0440\u0430\u0437\u043e\u0440\u0432\u0430\u043b\u0438<\/a> business ties with FTX and removed the name of the Bitcoin exchange from the NBA Miami Heat arena, which <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/ftx-to-secure-naming-rights-for-the-miami-heat-arena\">\u043f\u0435\u0440\u0435\u0438\u043c\u0435\u043d\u043e\u0432\u0430\u043b\u0438 \u0432 FTX Arena \u0432 2021 \u0433\u043e\u0434\u0443<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Su\u00e1rez said the city is not immune to the crisis thanks to a diversified economy.
