It will oversee all local projects related to the first cryptocurrency, according to a post on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/el-salvador-creates-national-bitcoin-office-torres-legal\">LinkedIn<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The remit of the new agency is to develop, analyse, plan and coordinate Bitcoin-related programmes and projects for the country&#8217;s economic development.<\/p>\n<p>ONBTC will handle relations with the media, international Bitcoin companies and prospective investors in El Salvador or those seeking to meet President Nayib Bukele on issues around the integration of the first cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n<p>All government agencies are required to assist the National Bitcoin Office in carrying out its functions. The director of ONBTC will be appointed by the head of state.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/el-salvador-to-study-regulation-of-issuing-digital-assets\">began considering<\/a> a bill designed to bring order to the legal framework for dealings with providers and issuers of virtual asset services.<\/p>\n<p>Back in September 2021, the Salvadoran authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/el-salvador-legalises-bitcoin-as-government-buys-550-btc\">recognised<\/a> Bitcoin as legal tender. <span data-descr=\"International Monetary Fund\" class=\"old_tooltip\">\u041c\u0412\u0424<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/imf-again-criticises-bitcoin-legalisation-in-el-salvador\">criticised<\/a> the move and <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/imf-urges-el-salvador-to-drop-bitcoin-as-legal-tender\">recommended<\/a> stripping the cryptocurrency of that status.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2022, the country\u2019s finance minister Alejandro Zelaya said that the rollout of digital gold <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/el-salvador-cites-benefits-of-bitcoin-legalization\">expanded access to financial services<\/a> to populations largely outside the reach of banking services, <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/el-salvador-links-tourism-boom-to-bitcoin-legalization\">drew tourists<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/bitfinex-to-donate-over-1-million-to-small-businesses-in-el-salvador\">attracted investments<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Follow ForkLog\u2019s Bitcoin news on our Telegram \u2014 cryptocurrency news, prices and analysis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Salvadoran government has opened the National Bitcoin Office (ONBTC).
