The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office and Turkey’s Ministry of Justice have signed a new two-year cooperation program, one of the pillars of which will be the fight against the criminal use of cryptocurrencies and digital assets. As reported by TASS<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov, the Russian side is ready to share its experience in countering cybercrime.<\/p>\n

“Russia has developed the appropriate judicial and investigative practice, legislation on digital assets is being updated, and pilot testing of the central bank’s digital ruble platform is underway,” he noted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Krasnov also mentioned the United Nations Special Committee draft of a universal convention<\/a> on countering the use of advanced technologies for criminal purposes.<\/p>\n

“The Russian approach to the document implies criminalising the widest possible range of acts in this area, as such technologies are widely used to promote extremist views and attempts to influence political regimes,” the Russian prosecutor general added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In his view, Western countries “reduce the understanding of cybercrime to a narrow set of computer crimes,” which “does not reflect the essence of the problem”.<\/p>\n

In August 2021, the Prosecutor Generals’ Offices of Russia and Belize signed a programme of joint activities. It provides for information exchange on cybercrimes<\/a>, including those relating to the cryptocurrency market.<\/p>\n

In April 2022, Krasnov proposed to include digital currencies in criminal law<\/a> for investigating cases of their theft and for the possibility of seizure. He also supported the introduction of the digital ruble to decriminalize settlements<\/a>.<\/p>\n
