(@peckshield) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/peckshield\/status\/1581627065924694021?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 16, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>On October 11, the attacker <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/hacker-siphons-2-3m-from-templedao\">exploited a bug in TempleDAO&#8217;s smart contract<\/a> and stole 1831 ETH (~$2.3 million) from one of the staking vaults.<\/p>\n<p>The protocol team promised to return the funds to affected users.<\/p>\n<p>The hacker initially sent a 0.1 ETH transaction to the mixer service, and then <a href=\"https:\/\/etherscan.io\/address\/0x2b63d4a3b2db8acbb2671ea7b16993077f1db5a0\">made<\/a> several transfers of 100 ETH.<\/p>\n<p>On August 8, 2022, <span data-descr=\"Office of Foreign Assets Control, part of the U.S. Department of the Treasury\" class=\"old_tooltip\">OFAC<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.news\/ethereum-mikser-tornado-cash-popal-pod-sanktsii-ssha\/\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.news\/ethereum-mikser-tornado-cash-popal-pod-sanktsii-ssha\/\">placed<\/a> Tornado Cash on the sanctions list. The restrictions affected 39 Ethereum addresses and 6 USDC addresses on suspicion of laundering more than $7 billion.<\/p>\n<p>On August 12, Dutch authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/in-amsterdam-authorities-arrest-alleged-tornado-cash-developer\">arrested<\/a> the service&#8217;s developer Alexey Pertsev. The court <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/tornado-cash-developer-remanded-in-custody-for-two-months\">ordered<\/a> him detained at least until the end of October.<\/p>\n<p>Kraken CEO Jesse Powell called the sanctions against Tornado Cash unconstitutional, while TRM Labs analysts called them a challenge to compliance.<\/p>\n<p>Coin Center, an organization promoting and defending the crypto industry, <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/coin-center-sues-u-s-treasury-over-tornado-cash-sanctions\">filed a lawsuit against OFAC<\/a> over the measures against the mixer.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, the hacker behind the decentralized exchange Transit Swap used the mixing service.<\/p>\n<p>This month has been a record for the amount of cryptocurrency stolen by hackers in 2022, according to Chainalysis.
