{"id":68122,"date":"2022-10-05T12:27:52","date_gmt":"2022-10-05T09:27:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=68122"},"modified":"2025-09-07T12:22:38","modified_gmt":"2025-09-07T09:22:38","slug":"white-house-unveils-non-binding-ai-rights-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/white-house-unveils-non-binding-ai-rights-bill\/","title":{"rendered":"White House unveils non-binding AI rights bill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) published a draft AI Rights Bill intended to &#8220;protect the American public,&#8221; according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/white-house-unveils-its-blueprint-for-an-ai-bill-of-rights-175912494.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Engadget<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the press release, the document advances five principles:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Safety and effectiveness of systems;<\/li>\n<li>Algorithmic safeguards against discrimination;<\/li>\n<li>Data privacy;<\/li>\n<li>Notice and explanation of the purposes for using AI systems;<\/li>\n<li>Human-in-the-loop options, and the ability to review and reject algorithm use.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;In plain terms, systems should work, they should not discriminate, they should not use data without scrutiny. They should be visible and understandable, and they should not exclude human interlocutors,&#8221; wrote Suresh Venkatasubramanian, co-author of the bill.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to him, more than a thousand edits and comments were incorporated during its development.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;The AI Rights Bill reflects a broad and deep American consensus on how to govern automated technologies that affect our lives,&#8221; added Venkatasubramanian.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The deputy OSTP director for science and society Dr. Alondra Nelson said the project is aimed at everyone who interacts with technology.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;The methods set out in the AI Rights Bill are not merely desirable: they are attainable and essential for creating technologies and a society that works for all of us,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The administration spent more than a year developing the project. During this time, the authors organised panel discussions, public hearings, as well as a number of meetings with entrepreneurs, activists and corporate executives.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the bill itself, OSTP released a companion piece, &#8220;From Principles to Practice,&#8221; detailing concrete steps to implement the AI Rights Bill.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;Effective implementation of these processes requires collaboration among industry, civil society, researchers, policymakers, technologists, and the public,&#8221; the document says.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The AI Rights Bill is not mandatory. A representative of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Joran Crenshaw, welcomed the initiative.
