[\u2026] Bitcoin has become an exception, demonstratively refusing to take responsibility for the climate\u00bb, \u2014 said Michael Brune, head of the Change the Code, Not the Climate campaign.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the EWG, digital gold should take steps in this direction or risk becoming a cryptocurrency of the past.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign was launched in March 2022 to pressure Bitcoin miners and investors. The new advertising strategy appeared after the activation <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/ethereums-move-to-proof-of-stake-pos-what-you-need-to-know\">The Merge<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/engage.us.greenpeace.org\/pzr70hgpUU-rkNNzHqUCmg2\">petition<\/a> Greenpeace.<\/p>\n<p>The latest called on Fidelity Investments to push Bitcoin toward adopting an energy-efficient protocol. The organization reminded of the firm\u2019s plans to provide clients <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.io\/fidelity-investments-pozvolit-investoram-nakaplivat-bitkoiny-na-pensionnyh-schetah\/\">the ability to accumulate the asset<\/a> on 401(k) retirement accounts.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u00abAs of today, Fidelity is ignoring Bitcoin\u2019s growing impact on the climate. It\u2019s time for us to tell Fidelity: our planet cannot afford an early retirement,\u00bb the appeal reads.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Scott Faber, senior vice president of EWG for government affairs, told Cointelegraph that environmentalists would support any US government efforts to establish standards affecting miners. He said regulators \u201cshould not stay on the sidelines and hope for the best\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u00abWe expect the Bitcoin community to follow Ethereum&#8217;s example. [\u2026] We are not against digital assets, but we are concerned about the growth in energy consumption,\u00bb added Faber.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Earlier, the White House called The Merge <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/white-house-threatens-to-ban-bitcoin-mining-over-its-environmental-impact\">the most notable response<\/a> to calls to use less energy-intensive consensus mechanisms.<\/p>\n<p>In April, a group of congressmen addressed the Environmental Protection Agency with a request to <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/us-lawmakers-urge-epa-review-of-proof-of-work-over-environmental-impact\">examine the mining industry<\/a> for environmental risks and compliance with relevant laws.<\/p>\n<p>In the same month, the New York State Assembly\u2019s lower chamber <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/new-york-assembly-approves-two-year-moratorium-on-crypto-mining\">backed a moratorium<\/a> on crypto mining using electricity generated from carbon sources.
