Pertsev&#8217;s lawyers were unable to secure his release on bail. According to the publication, the developer has not yet been formally charged.<\/p>\n<p>On August 8, <span data-descr=\"United States Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)\" class=\"old_tooltip\">OFAC<\/span> added <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.news\/ethereum-mikser-tornado-cash-popal-pod-sanktsii-ssha\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Tornado Cash site<\/a>, as well as 39 Ethereum addresses and 6 USDC addresses linked to it, to the sanctions list.<\/p>\n<p>According to the agency, since the mixer\u2019s creation in 2019, it has been used to launder cryptocurrency worth more than $7 billion. Elliptic puts it at about $1.54 billion.<\/p>\n<p>On August 12, Dutch authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/in-amsterdam-authorities-arrest-alleged-tornado-cash-developer\">arrested<\/a> an unnamed man on suspicion of involvement in laundering funds and concealing illicit financial flows through a cryptocurrency mixer. It later emerged that the man was Pertsev.<\/p>\n<p>On August 22 in Amsterdam, <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/protest-in-amsterdam-over-arrest-of-tornado-cash-developer\">a rally in support of him took place<\/a>. Participants said that open-source code is not a crime, and authorities should pursue the real perpetrators.<\/p>\n<p>As a reminder, Kraken CEO Jesse Powell described sanctions against Tornado Cash <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/kraken-ceo-calls-sanctions-against-tornado-cash-unconstitutional\">unconstitutional<\/a>, while TRM Labs analysts <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/trm-labs-says-sanctions-on-tornado-cash-pose-a-compliance-challenge\">a challenge to compliance<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Criticism was also voiced by US Representative Tom Emmer. In his view, the restrictions on the mixer <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/us-congressman-describes-tornado-cash-sanctions-as-unprecedented\">threaten privacy and innovation<\/a>.
