The list includes entities linked to the KuCoin exchange.<\/p>\n<p>The Seychelles-based Mek Global and the Singaporean firm PhoenixFin Pte. The latter is the <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/singapore-court-locks-crypto-exchange-kucoin-s-web-domain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">owner<\/a> of the platform&#8217;s site.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cAt OSC we [\u2026] maintain a list of warnings about companies or individuals engaged in activities that may pose a risk to investors,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A total of 13 companies involved with digital assets were included in the list.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"982\" height=\"393\" src=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Snimok-ekrana-2022-08-24-v-12.26.56.png\" alt=\"Ontario regulator warns investors away from KuCoin\" class=\"wp-image-182766\" srcset=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Snimok-ekrana-2022-08-24-v-12.26.56.png 982w, https:\/\/u1f987.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Snimok-ekrana-2022-08-24-v-12.26.56-300x120.png 300w, https:\/\/u1f987.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Snimok-ekrana-2022-08-24-v-12.26.56-768x307.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 982px) 100vw, 982px\" \/><figcaption>Source: OSC.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Earlier in August the regulator had already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.osc.ca\/en\/news-events\/news\/osc-investor-warnings-and-alerts-july-12-august-2-2022\">issued<\/a> a warning regarding the KuCoin cryptocurrency exchange itself.<\/p>\n<p>In the summer of 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/ontario-regulator-accuses-kucoin-of-securities-law-violations\">the OSC accused Mek Global and PhoenixFin Pte<\/a> of non-compliance with local law. According to the Commission, KuCoin operates an unregistered platform and \u201cencourages Ontario residents to trade crypto asset\u2013related products that are securities and derivatives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Similar claims were levelled at <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/ontario-regulator-accuses-okex-of-securities-law-violations\">the bitcoin exchanges OKEx<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/canadian-regulator-sues-bitcoin-exchange-poloniex\">Poloniex<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2022, Binance <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.news\/binance-podtverdila-prekrashhenie-deyatelnosti-v-ontario\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pledged to cease operations<\/a> in Ontario.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, a similar decision was taken by the cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex.<\/p>\n<p>In June the OSC <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/canadian-regulator-fines-bybit-and-bans-kucoin-activity\">barred KuCoin from operating and ordered Bybit<\/a> to pay a fine.<\/p>\n<p>Follow ForkLog&#8217;s Bitcoin news on our <a href=\"https:\/\/telegram.me\/forklog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Telegram<\/a> \u2014 cryptocurrency news, prices and analytics.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) published a warning to investors about unregistered cryptocurrency platforms.
