In the long term, ZK-Rollups-based L2 scaling solutions will surpass Optimistic Rollups. This forecast was given by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, The Block<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

At the ETHSeoul conference, Buterin noted that while Optimistic Rollups<\/a> is a more mature technology thanks to the speed of deposits and withdrawals into the mainnet, ZK-Rollups<\/a> will edge out the competitor.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cYou won\u2019t have to wait seven days to transfer assets. I expect that in about ten years all Rollups will be primarily based on cryptographic proofs<\/a>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Ethereum co-founder acknowledged the shortcomings of ZK-Rollups and the difficulties in their development. There are many challenges, especially in securely executing processes and in verifying the correctness of all algorithms, he added.<\/p>\n

In December, Buterin placed ZK-Rollups at the center<\/a> of Ethereum’s probable roadmap for development.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the Matter Labs team announced the launch of zkSync 2.0 on the Ethereum mainnet for a limited group of users. zkSync is an EVM-compatible EVM<\/span>-based Layer-2 solution built on a zero-knowledge proof protocol. <\/p>\n
