{"id":64658,"date":"2022-07-20T16:01:46","date_gmt":"2022-07-20T13:01:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=64658"},"modified":"2025-09-06T15:38:48","modified_gmt":"2025-09-06T12:38:48","slug":"report-bitcoin-mining-energy-efficiency-up-46-year-on-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/report-bitcoin-mining-energy-efficiency-up-46-year-on-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Report: Bitcoin mining energy efficiency up 46% year on year."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Bitcoin Mining Council (BMC) <a href=\\\"https:\/\/bitcoinminingcouncil.com\/bitcoin-mining-electricity-mix-increased-to-59-5-sustainable-in-q2-2022\/\\\">\u043e\u043f\u0443\u0431\u043b\u0438\u043a\u043e\u0432\u0430\u043b\u0430<\/a> a quarterly report on the state of the Bitcoin mining industry, in which it focused on metrics of energy consumption, technological efficiency and ecology.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of Q2 2022, the aggregate hashrate of BMC participants stood at 107.7 EH\/s \u2014 more than 50% of the total.<\/p>\n<p>Compared with April\u2013June 2021, the network hashrate rose by 137%, and energy consumption by 63%. Mining efficiency over the year rose by 63%. Hashrate produced per 1 MW changed from 14.4 EH to 21.1 EH.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\">\n<p>\u00abWe are seeing a 46% year-on-year rise in energy efficiency, driven by advances in semiconductor technology, rapid expansion of mining in North America, <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/bitcoin-mining-in-2021-chinas-ban-reshaped-the-balance-of-power\">\u201c\u043a\u0438\u0442\u0430\u0439\u0441\u043a\u043e\u043c\u0443 \u0438\u0441\u0445\u043e\u0434\u0443\u201d<\/a>, widespread adoption of sustainable energy and modern equipment\u00bb, \u2014 \u043f\u0440\u043e\u043a\u043e\u043c\u043c\u0435\u043d\u0442\u0438\u0440\u043e\u0432\u0430\u043b CEO MicroStrategy \u041c\u0430\u0439\u043a\u043b \u0421\u044d\u0439\u043b\u043e\u0440.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The share of green energy in miners&#8217; consumption rose by 6 percentage points to 59.5% (among BMC members it stood at 66.8%).<\/p>\n<p>The BMC was <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/elon-musk-discusses-prospects-for-green-bitcoin-mining-with-miners\">founded in May 2021<\/a> at the initiative of Saylor following a meeting with Elon Musk.<\/p>\n<p>Founding members included MicroStrategy, Argo Blockchain, Hive Blockchain, Hut8, Riot Blockchain, Marathon Digital Holdings, Core Scientific and Galaxy Digital, Mike Novogratz&#8217;s cryptocurrency merchant bank.<\/p>\n<p>According to the site, at the time of writing BMC counted 45 member companies operating on five continents.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2021, the organization <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/study-finds-56-share-of-green-energy-in-bitcoin-mining-industry\">released a report<\/a>, according to which the share of &#8216;green&#8217; energy in the Bitcoin mining industry stood at 56%.
