{"id":64050,"date":"2022-07-07T09:41:57","date_gmt":"2022-07-07T06:41:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=64050"},"modified":"2025-09-06T12:12:45","modified_gmt":"2025-09-06T09:12:45","slug":"us-officials-who-own-cryptocurrencies-barred-from-working-on-crypto-regulation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/us-officials-who-own-cryptocurrencies-barred-from-working-on-crypto-regulation\/","title":{"rendered":"US officials who own cryptocurrencies barred from working on crypto regulation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Office of Government Ethics (OGE) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oge.gov\/web\/oge.nsf\/News+Releases\/E116F1FD24F94BB3852588770058A0FA\/%24FILE\/LA-22-04.pdf\">barred<\/a> officials who privately own digital assets from participating in drafting the federal regulatory framework for the industry.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201c[&#8230;] an employee who holds any amount of cryptocurrency or stablecoin cannot participate in a specific regulatory issue if he knows that it could have a direct and predictable impact on the price of his cryptocurrency or stablecoin,\u201d the notice said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The OGE gave an example in which an official who invested $100 in a stablecoin cannot participate in drafting the rules. The restrictions would be lifted when he &#8216;renounces his stake in the stablecoin.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The rule also applies if the cryptocurrency or stablecoin in question ever \u201cwill constitute a security under federal or state law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The order applies to all federal government employees, including the White House, the Federal Reserve System (the Fed) and the Treasury Department.<\/p>\n<p>The agency also introduced a single exception.
