Why is this important? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gfzYposWpY\">pic.twitter.com\/gfzYposWpY<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Digital Asset Risk Management Advisors (@DARMACapital) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DARMACapital\/status\/1493238903884730370?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 14, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>DARMA Capital has obtained regulatory approval for the product from the <span data-descr=\"U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission\" class=\"old_tooltip\">CFTC<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The instrument involves two parties exchanging cash flows generated by two different assets over a defined period.<\/p>\n<p>With FAUS, the firm can lend to clients FIL tokens it holds, worth about $100 million. The instrument eliminates the need for users to purchase the underlying asset, allowing income through the <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/proof-of-stake-how-it-works-and-why-it-is-so-popular\">Proof-of-Stake mechanism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The contract term ranges from 1.5 to 2.5 years. Participation requires compliance with KYC\/AML requirements.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with CoinDesk, DARMA managing partner Andrew Case noted that for a certain category of data-storage providers, the requirement to purchase FIL poses a barrier.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cPeople are used to Bitcoin mining, where electricity, real estate and equipment are required,\u201d<\/em> he explained.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Unlike many crypto-lending projects that require collateral of 80\u2013150% of the loan amount, FAUS requires only 5% of that amount to cover the risk of <span data-descr=\"penalty for transitioning to autonomous mode or unpredictable actions by the miner\/validator\" class=\"old_tooltip\">slashing<\/span>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cBased on current conditions in the Filecoin network, storage miners earn around 60\u201380% of tokens,\u201d<\/em> the company\u2019s calculations showed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>By minimising capital expenditure, FAUS allows space providers to scale up their participation and boost block rewards. The instrument supports the network rather than speculating on FIL, the firm said.<\/p>\n<p>DARMA noted that, thanks to their product, the network could gain greater diversification \u2014 about 65% of storage capacity is supplied by participants in China.<\/p>\n<p>The firm expects interest from participants in the United States, Europe and Australia.
