Intel plans to release a specialized Bitcoin-mining chip by the end of 2022, and several companies have already been added to the waiting list. The information is stated<\/a> on the chipmaker\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

Among the first clients are Block (formerly Square<\/a>), the company founded by Jack Dorsey, mining companies Argo Blockchain and GRIID Infrastructure<\/a>. The latter disclosed a deal with Intel in a filing<\/a> with the SEC<\/span>.<\/p>\n

“Intel will promote an open and secure blockchain ecosystem, and will help develop this technology in a responsible and sustainable manner,” the company said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The chips will be released on tiny dies, so their release will have minimal impact on current manufacturing processes. Details are to be disclosed at the ISSCC<\/span> conference in February.<\/p>\n

In 2018, Intel filed a patent application for a hardware mining accelerator designed to reduce energy costs in mining Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n

In January 2021, it emerged that the company planned to present a “low-voltage, high-efficiency ASIC miner” for the first cryptocurrency<\/a> at a demonstration session of ISSCC on February 23.<\/p>\n
