The use of faulty algorithms or software that leads to discrimination and bias is also wrong,\u201d the press release said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The bill would require companies to audit their AI systems and report the results to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). This includes any decisions made by enterprises, among which:<\/p>\n<ul class=\\\"wp-block-list\\\">\n<li>the cost, terms, and availability of education;<\/li>\n<li>employment;<\/li>\n<li>basic utilities;<\/li>\n<li>family planning;<\/li>\n<li>healthcare;<\/li>\n<li>housing provision;<\/li>\n<li>legal services;<\/li>\n<li>any other services, programs, or opportunities affecting consumers&#8217; lives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The bill stipulates that the FTC would publish high-profile cases related to algorithmic bias. The Commission would also create a publicly accessible database where consumers can view which decisions are being made by automated systems at a given company.<\/p>\n<p>The bill was backed by a number of civil rights groups. Arisha Hatch, vice president of Color Of Change, expressed hope that Congress would pass the measure soon.<\/p>\n<p>Wyden first <a href=\\\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/116th-congress\/house-bill\/2231\\\" target=\\\"_blank\\\" rel=\\\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\\\">introduced<\/a> the algorithmic accountability bill in 2019, but it did not proceed to committee hearings in either the House of Representatives or the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>In April 2021, Wyden <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/us-lawmakers-propose-to-ban-clearview-ai-by-law\">proposed to legislatively ban facial-recognition systems<\/a> such as Clearview AI.<\/p>\n<p>In November, lawmakers introduced rules <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/us-lawmakers-introduce-bill-to-regulate-recommendation-algorithms\">for regulating recommender algorithms<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2022, lawmakers proposed legislatively <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/us-lawmakers-propose-bill-banning-personalized-online-advertising\">to ban targeted digital advertising<\/a> on platforms such as Facebook and Google.<\/p>\n<p>Subscribe to ForkLog news on Telegram: <a href=\\\"https:\/\/t.me\/forklogAI\\\" target=\\\"_blank\\\" rel=\\\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\\\">ForkLog AI<\/a> \u2014 all the news from the world of AI!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>American lawmakers renewed efforts to hold tech companies accountable for bias in algorithms.
