This was stated by SEC Commissioner <span data-descr=\"U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission\" class=\"old_tooltip\">SEC<\/span> Hester Peirce, Bloomberg reports.<\/p>\n<p>The official warned about &#8216;extremely broad&#8217; formulations in the document that could give the agency broad powers to oversee digital asset platforms. Yet in the 654-page plan, focused on ATS trading in stocks, U.S. Treasuries, and agency securities, cryptocurrencies are not mentioned once.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cThe amendments could cover more types of trading mechanisms, including potentially DeFi protocols,\u201d<\/em> she explained.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Peirce opposed sending the document to public comment. SEC Chairman Gary Gensler and two of his colleagues voted in favor of \u201cstrengthening resilience and expanding access to the government bond market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Commission justified publishing the amendments by the aim of closing a regulatory gap arising from the emergence of platforms that are not registered as exchanges or brokers. If approved, such \u201ccommunication-protocol systems\u201d would require registration with the SEC.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, in January, Gensler <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/sec-pledges-tougher-oversight-of-bitcoin-exchanges\">expressed hope<\/a>, that in the coming months digital-asset trading platforms would take steps to be regulated more concretely by the agency.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, Gensler <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/sec-chair-urges-u-s-congress-to-cooperate-on-bitcoin-exchange-regulation\">urged<\/a> Congress to develop a regulatory framework for Bitcoin exchanges and <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/sec-chief-urges-broader-investor-protection-rules-for-bitcoin-exchanges\">expand<\/a> investor-protection rules to platforms.<\/p>\n<p>He <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/gensler-urges-crypto-exchanges-to-work-with-the-sec\">invited<\/a> trading venues to engage in dialogue with the SEC.<\/p>\n<p>In his view, regulation <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/gary-gensler-regulation-is-necessary-for-the-survival-of-cryptocurrencies\">is necessary for the survival of cryptocurrencies<\/a>.
