According to Bukele, the purchase cost the country $15 million at an average price of $36,585.<\/p>\n<p>On January 24, renowned economist and Bitcoin critic Nouriel Roubini <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/nouriel-roubini-calls-for-impeachment-of-el-salvadors-president-amid-bitcoin-decline\">called on the Salvadoran government to impeach the president<\/a> because of his investment in the first cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in January, the IMF&#8217;s Executive Board <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/imf-urges-el-salvador-to-drop-bitcoin-as-legal-tender\">urged El Salvador to abandon Bitcoin as a means of payment<\/a> and warned about the risks to financial stability.<\/p>\n<p>The IMF expressed concern about El Salvador&#8217;s plans to issue Bitcoin bonds worth $1 billion.
