It looks like the digital yuan wallet intends to become a super app,&#8221; Xu wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On January 4, the Chinese authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/media-app-store-and-google-play-add-mobile-wallet-for-the-digital-yuan\">launched a pilot version of the mobile wallet<\/a> for using e-CNY. The initiative&#8217;s developer is listed as the Digital Currency Research Institute of the People&#8217;s Bank of China.<\/p>\n<p>To download the app, you must be physically located in one of its testing sites: Shenzhen, Suzhou, Xiongan, Chengdu, Shanghai, Hainan, Changsha, Xi&#8217;an, Qingdao, Dalian, or the zone hosting the Winter Olympic Games. <\/p>\n<p>The mobile wallet for using the digital yuan <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/media-mobile-wallet-for-the-digital-yuan-tops-app-store-charts\">topped the app-store charts<\/a> in its first week after launch.<\/p>\n<p>On January 11, Bloomberg reported that China <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/media-china-curbs-rivals-to-the-digital-yuan-in-the-olympic-village\">restricted payments via Alipay and WeChat<\/a> in the Olympic Village where the e-CNY is being tested.<\/p>\n<p>As reported in late January, Chinese food-delivery company Meituan <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/meituan-integrates-chinas-digital-yuan\">allowed merchants among its partners to accept the digital yuan<\/a>.
