A big win with cross-party support,<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Digital Services Act would prevent platforms such as Google, Amazon and Facebook from using confidential information, such as race, religion and sexual orientation, for targeted advertising.<\/p>\n<p>New rules require services to offer users a way to opt out of tracking. They would also oblige platforms to identify and remove illegal content and products, including the incitement of hatred or counterfeit goods.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal also bans targeted advertising to minors and <span data-descr=\"a carefully crafted user interface designed to deceive the user into taking the required action, such as sharing their data\" class=\"old_tooltip\">dark UX patterns<\/span>. Companies that violate the rules could face fines of up to 6% of their global revenue.<\/p>\n<p>The next step in the bill\u2019s passage will be negotiations with the European Council, which are due to begin on 31 January 2022.<\/p>\n<p>In the United States, a bipartisan group of congressmen introduced a bill, <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/us-lawmakers-propose-bill-banning-personalized-online-advertising\">prohibiting almost all use of targeting in digital advertising<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As reported in April 2021, the European Commission presented recommendations on regulating AI, including a ban on exploiting most mass-surveillance technologies.<\/p>\n<p>In November, a bipartisan group of American congressmen introduced a bill, <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/us-lawmakers-introduce-bill-to-regulate-recommendation-algorithms\">regulating recommender algorithms<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Subscribe to ForkLog News on Telegram: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/forklogAI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">ForkLog AI<\/a> \u2014 all the news from the world of AI!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The European Parliament approved the initial draft of a law aimed at restricting the invasive advertising practices of large corporations.
