Bitcoin\u2019s mining difficulty rose by 9.32%, reaching a new high of 26.64 trillion hashes (TH).<\/p>\n

The previous record was set on May 13, 2021 at 25.05 TH<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Later that month Bitcoin’s hashrate fell by 20%<\/a> due to power outages in China’s Sichuan province which led to a decline<\/a> in the corresponding difficulty.<\/p>\n

Subsequently the metric continued to fall<\/a> amid crackdowns on mining in the country and migration of capacity abroad. In a single recalculation, a record drop of nearly 28%<\/a> was recorded.<\/p>\n

By the end of June, the hashrate had fallen to July 2019 levels<\/a> and showed signs of recovery<\/a> after about a month. Around the same time, began<\/a> to increase, and the difficulty rose as well.<\/p>\n

According to Blockchain.com<\/a>, on January 20, 2022 the network’s hash rate reached a new high of 198.8 EH\/s (seven-day moving average).<\/p>\n

In August 2021, the United States displaced China from the lead in Bitcoin’s hashrate share.<\/p>\n
