Armenia plans to decommission the old Razdan TPP<\/span>, and on its territory to host, among other things, a cryptocurrency mining operation. reports<\/a> Sputnik Armenia.<\/p>\n

On January 20, the Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia approved a plan to lease part of the station’s territory.<\/p>\n

One section of the TPP’s territory will continue to host the Free Economic Zone \u201cECOS\u201d, where a mining data center is planned. Details on the facility’s capacity and the number of equipment were not disclosed by the publication.<\/p>\n

Sources say the equipment at Razdan TPP is physically and morally obsolete, hence the electricity generated there is too expensive.<\/p>\n

\u00abNevertheless, the large territory of the station with its extensive infrastructures \u2014 transmission lines, water mains and industrial gas pipelines \u2014 is convenient for leasing to manufacturing companies,\u00bb the publication notes.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In February 2018, Razdan TPP and ECOS-M signed an agreement to supply electricity for the construction of a 50 MW mining center on the territory of the Free Economic Zone.<\/p>\n

It was reported that the mining center’s capacity could potentially be increased to 200 MW.<\/p>\n
