{"id":56236,"date":"2022-01-20T12:12:21","date_gmt":"2022-01-20T10:12:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=56236"},"modified":"2025-09-04T05:23:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T02:23:14","slug":"sec-pledges-tougher-oversight-of-bitcoin-exchanges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/sec-pledges-tougher-oversight-of-bitcoin-exchanges\/","title":{"rendered":"SEC pledges tougher oversight of Bitcoin exchanges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Crypto exchanges will be the main focus for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as part of a widening crackdown on digital assets, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-01-19\/crypto-exchanges-will-face-more-scrutiny-from-sec-gensler-says?srnd=cryptocurrencies\">Bloomberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>SEC Chair Gary Gensler said he hopes that in the coming months trading platforms for digital assets will take steps to be regulated more concretely by the agency.<\/p>\n<p>In his view, additional oversight is crucial to provide crypto investors the same protections as those afforded when trading stocks or other traditional assets.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier Gensler <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/sec-chair-urges-u-s-congress-to-cooperate-on-bitcoin-exchange-regulation\">urged<\/a> Congress to develop a regulatory framework for Bitcoin exchanges and <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/sec-chief-urges-broader-investor-protection-rules-for-bitcoin-exchanges\">expand<\/a> investor-protection rules to platforms.<\/p>\n<p>He repeatedly <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/gensler-urges-crypto-exchanges-to-work-with-the-sec\">invited<\/a> trading venues to engage in dialogue with the SEC.<\/p>\n<p>In his view, regulation <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/gary-gensler-regulation-is-necessary-for-the-survival-of-cryptocurrencies\">is necessary for the survival of cryptocurrencies<\/a>.
