On the same day, all affected accounts were reimbursed. Therefore there were no losses of client funds,\u00bb said Marszalek.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On January 17, after customers reported suspicious activity on their accounts, <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/analysts-report-crypto-com-hack-company-denies-loss-of-funds\">Crypto.com suspended withdrawals<\/a>. The company assured that user assets were safe, but PeckShield analysts estimated the damage from the hackers&#8217; actions at more than $15 million.<\/p>\n<p>OXT Research specialist ErgoBTC noted that the value of stolen assets was significantly higher. He pointed out that the hackers withdrew not only 4,836 ETH, but also 444 BTC (~$18.63 million at the time of writing). Thus total losses could exceed $33 million.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Adding another 444 BTC to the previously reported 4.6k ETH from yesterday\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cryptocom?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@cryptocom<\/a> hack.<\/p>\n<p>Still no acknowledgement of loss, despite large outflows from the custodial wallet into ETH\u2019s Tornado Cash and a well known BTC tumbler (as detailed below). <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GalJKM6bi9\">pic.twitter.com\/GalJKM6bi9<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 \u2234Ergo\u2234 (@ErgoBTC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ErgoBTC\/status\/1483540849434763264?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 18, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>ErgoBTC also noted that the attackers sent all BTC to a bitcoin mixer address, which in the past was used by hacker <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/chainalysis-links-lazarus-to-kucoin-hack-worth-280m\">Lazarus Group<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/darkside-ransomware-bitcoins-worth-6-8-million-moved\">Darkside<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a Bloomberg interview, Marszalek did not name the exact amount stolen, but stressed that losses were &#8220;not particularly substantial&#8221; in the scale of the business. He said the company is still conducting an investigation and will publish a corresponding report in the coming days.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-text-wrappers-update-2 article_update\"><time class=\"gtb_text-wrappers_update_time\">January 20, 2022 | 10:18<\/time><span class=\"gtb_text-wrappers_update_head\">Update: <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Crypto.com published an incident report. The attack affected 483 user accounts. Hackers withdrew 4,836.26 ETH, 443.93 BTC and about $66,200 &#8220;in other currencies&#8221;. All affected users received full reimbursement.<\/p>\n<p>The platform conducted a security audit, implemented a new two-factor authentication model, and introduced a customer account protection program. Under the latter, insurance coverage for the assets of &#8220;qualified users&#8221; is up to $250 000.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Earlier in September 2021, Crypto.com <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/crypto-com-expands-insurance-coverage-to-750-million\">expanded the scope of the user funds insurance program<\/a> to $750 million.
