Russia leads\\\"\/><figcaption>Data: Check Point Research.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As Chainalysis noted, a key driver of the surge in hacking activity was <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/hackers-exploited-a-log4j-vulnerability-to-mine-on-hewlett-packard-servers\">a vulnerability in the popular Java library Log4j<\/a> identified in late December 2021. It was used to install <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/flaw-in-java-library-exploited-to-install-covert-miners\">hidden miners and other malware<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Experts advise organizations operating in vulnerable sectors to promptly implement security patches for their systems, segment local networks, and train employees to recognise potential threats.<\/p>\n<p>As Chainalysis noted, criminals stole from users in 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/chainalysis-rug-pull-schemes-accounted-for-37-of-scammers-income-in-2021\">more than $7.7 billion in cryptocurrencies<\/a>.
