One of the publication&#8217;s sources said that if the measure is adopted, restrictions would not affect holders of assets acquired previously.<\/p>\n<p>Another source close to the regulator said that the central bank&#8217;s position is a &#8216;full rejection&#8217; of all cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n<p>The Bank of Russia said it would outline its position on the matter in a special report.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/bank-of-russia-says-it-is-categorically-opposed-to-cryptocurrencies\">The Bank of Russia has long opposed cryptocurrencies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In September, the central bank classed operations with bitcoin exchangers as potentially suspicious and <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/bank-of-russia-recommends-blocking-cards-and-accounts-for-transactions-with-bitcoin-exchanges\">recommended<\/a> banks to keep a close eye on them and even block them in case of suspected money laundering.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/bank-of-russia-opposes-access-by-non-qualified-investors-to-bitcoin\">The Bank of Russia also opposed access by non-qualified investors<\/a> to crypto assets, <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/bank-of-russia-opposes-bitcoin-payments-domestically\">the use of them for payments<\/a> domestically, and called Russians&#8217; investments in Bitcoin <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/bank-of-russia-says-russians-bitcoin-investments-pose-a-potentially-significant-problem\">a potentially significant problem<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In November, the central bank published a report estimating the annual volume of Russians&#8217; cryptocurrency operations at <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/bank-of-russia-russians-annual-cryptocurrency-trading-volume-stands-at-around-5-billion\">around $5 billion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Head of the State Duma Committee on Financial Markets Anatoly Aksakov <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/aksakov-russian-authorities-discuss-a-full-ban-on-cryptocurrency-purchases\">said<\/a>, that authorities are currently discussing various regulatory options for the industry, including a full ban on investments in crypto assets.<\/p>\n<p>Read ForkLog&#8217;s Bitcoin news on our <a href=\"\/\/telegram.me\/forklog\" target=\"\u201c_blank\u201d\" rel=\"\u201cnofollow\u201d noopener\">Telegram<\/a> \u2014 cryptocurrency news, prices and analytics.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Bank of Russia intends to ban investments in cryptocurrencies due to risks to financial stability amid the rise in transactions with digital assets.
