Market participants <a href=\"https:\/\/iz.ru\/1261597\/valerii-voronov\/tak-i-mainit-energopotreblenie-v-rossii-mozhet-vyrasti-v-25-raza-iz-za-dobytchikov-kripty\">told<\/a> Izvestia.<\/p>\n<p>According to the head of the energy business at En+ Group, Mikhail Khardikov, the growth in electricity consumption by miners posing as &#8216;households&#8217; across the country in 2021 could amount to more than 20%. Meanwhile, the increase in domestic electricity consumption in some regions could reach 250%, said Igor Runets, the CEO of mining data-centre operator Bitriver.<\/p>\n<p>Shadow miners do not register a business, installing energy-intensive equipment in residential buildings and garages. Today they consume 500\u2013700 MW, and their number may be 50,000\u2013100,000, according to an industry source.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, authorities in the Irkutsk region reported an <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/irkutsk-governor-complains-to-government-about-illegal-miners\">avalanche-like rise in household electricity consumption in the region by 159% due to shadow miners<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;Due to the rapid growth of shadow cryptocurrency mining, which places an excessive burden on the country&#8217;s power grid and is not regulated by legislation, Russians could face widespread power outages in the coming years,&#8221; added Mikhail Khardikov.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Earlier, in November, representatives of several ministries in Russia supported the initiative to recognise <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/russian-authorities-back-plan-to-classify-mining-as-entrepreneurial-activity\">mining as a form of entrepreneurial activity<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Head of the State Duma Committee on Financial Markets Anatoly Aksakov proposed to separately codify <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/aksakov-proposes-codifying-miners-tax-treatment-in-law\">the taxation procedure for individuals and legal entities<\/a> engaged in cryptocurrency mining.<\/p>\n<p>In the Ministry of Energy, in turn, <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/ministry-of-energy-rules-out-applying-a-preferential-tariff-to-bitcoin-miners\">they ruled out applying a preferential tariff<\/a> for Bitcoin miners.
