This was stated by a deputy of the local <span data-descr='lower house of parliament' class='old_tooltip'>Mazhilis<\/span> Dusenbay Turganov, <a href='https:\/\/inbusiness.kz\/ru\/last\/v-kazahstane-predlozhili-razrabotat-kriterii-raboty-majnerov'>report<\/a> local media.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that since 2020 mining in Kazakhstan has been entirely legal, but authorities continue to crack down on uncontrolled electricity consumption for cryptocurrency mining.<\/p>\n<blockquote class='wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow'>\n<p>&#8216;Against the backdrop of an impending electricity shortage, the public forms a distorted view of digital mining as the culprit of the energy crisis, and it creates the impression that the state is not addressing this issue adequately,&#8217; Turganov says.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The deputy noted that since 2020 mining in Kazakhstan has been entirely legal, yet authorities continue to crack down on uncontrolled electricity consumption for cryptocurrency mining.<\/p>\n<blockquote class='wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow'>\n<p>&#8216;Authorized state bodies must intensify work to identify the so-called &#8216;gray&#8217; miners and curb their illegal activities,&#8217; Turganov stressed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He urged developing criteria for miners&#8217; activities, and, at the legislative level, involving them in the development of renewable energy sources.<\/p>\n<p>In the deputy&#8217;s view, the potential of cryptocurrency-mining companies can be used in balancing the imbalances in Kazakhstan&#8217;s Unified Energy System and in attracting additional investments in the energy sector.<\/p>\n<p><meta charset='utf-8'>Earlier, Kazakh lawmakers discussed the creation <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/kazakhstan-proposes-registry-for-mining-farms\">a registry of mining farms<\/a> and higher electricity tariffs for miners.<\/p>\n<p>In late September, energy minister Magzum Mirzagaliyev proposed <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/kazakhstan-authorities-propose-restricting-miners-to-address-electricity-shortages\">to limit the consumption of data centers<\/a> for cryptocurrency mining in the event of electricity shortages.<\/p>\n<p>In June, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a law introducing <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/kazakhstan-president-signs-law-introducing-an-additional-mining-fee\">an additional mining fee<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Follow ForkLog&#8217;s Bitcoin news on our <a href='https:\/\/telegram.me\/forklog' target='_blank' rel='nofollow noopener'>Telegram<\/a> \u2014 cryptocurrency news, prices and analysis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Regulation of mining activity in Kazakhstan needs to be supplemented with specific criteria.
