He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.akorda.kz\/ru\/prezident-kasym-zhomart-tokaev-prinyal-ministra-energetiki-magzuma-mirzagalieva-299511\">\u0437\u0430\u044f\u0432\u0438\u043b<\/a> at a meeting with the country&#8217;s energy minister Magzum Mirzagaliev.<\/p>\n<p>According to the minister, so-called &#8216;grey&#8217; miners consume roughly up to 1,200 MW of electricity.<\/p>\n<p>The president stressed that companies officially engaged in cryptocurrency mining will continue to operate without any restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>The Kazakh Blockchain Technology Association told ForkLog that a working group has been formed at the Ministry of Energy, within which proposals to identify &#8216;grey&#8217; miners are being considered.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the association&#8217;s chairman Sapar Ahmetov said that a pilot project to launch a cryptocurrency exchange, in which the Astana International Financial Centre and the National Bank participate, is in the final stages.<\/p>\n<p>Cryptocurrency mining in Kazakhstan is not banned, but miners are obliged to inform authorities about their activities.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in June, Tokayev signed a law providing for <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/kazakhstan-president-signs-law-introducing-an-additional-mining-fee\">the introduction of an additional mining tax<\/a>. The new rules will take effect on January 1, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>In September, the Ministry of Energy proposed <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/kazakhstan-authorities-propose-restricting-miners-to-address-electricity-shortages\">to cap the electricity consumption of mining data-centres<\/a> in the event of a power shortage.
