At the same time <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/zcash-network-records-its-first-halving-as-canopy-upgrade-activates\">the Canopy upgrade<\/a> was activated.<\/p>\n<p>In April 2021, the Electric Coin Company announced <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/zcash-developers-plan-major-halo-arc-upgrade\">the Halo Arc upgrade<\/a>, aimed at significantly increasing the system&#8217;s scalability and eliminating the need for &#8220;trusted setups&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Developers positioned Halo as a &#8220;trustless recursive version&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-zero-knowledge-proof\">of zero-knowledge proofs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In August, Wilcox proposed abandoning the Proof-of-Work consensus algorithm in favour of a more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/proof-of-stake-how-it-works-and-why-it-is-so-popular\">Proof-of-Stake<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Electric Coin Company <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/zcash-developers-to-boost-scalability-and-privacy-for-filecoin-and-ethereum\">entered into an agreement<\/a> with Protocol Labs, the Filecoin Foundation and the Ethereum Foundation.
