China has won the battle for artificial intelligence against the United States and is moving toward global dominance thanks to its technological advances. This was stated by Nicolas Chaillan, the former Pentagon Chief Software Officer, as reported by the Financial Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to Western intelligence assessments, over the next decade China is likely to dominate many key emerging technologies, especially artificial intelligence, synthetic biology, and genetics.<\/p>\n

Chaillan said that the lack of government response threatens the United States.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWe have no competitive chance to contend with China in 15\u201320 years. This is already a done deal: in my view, it is finished.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

According to a former Defence Department official, China was intent on dominating the world\u2019s future, controlling everything\u2014from media narratives to geopolitics.<\/p>\n

He blamed the situation on a lethargy of innovation, a reluctance by American companies, such as Google, to cooperate with the state on artificial intelligence, as well as broad ethical debates about the technology.<\/p>\n

\u201cChinese companies were forced to work with their government and made \u201cmassive investments\u201d in AI, paying no heed to ethics,\u201d Chaillan said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The former Pentagon official also argues that US cybersecurity in some government agencies is \u201cat a kindergarten level\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to a representative of the U.S. Air Force, the department\u2019s head Frank Kendall discussed with Chaillan recommendations for the department\u2019s software development going forward and thanked him for his contribution.<\/p>\n

In September 2021, Chaillan, the Pentagon\u2019s first Chief Software Officer, resigned in protest at the slow pace of technological transformation in the U.S. Army.<\/p>\n

Earlier, in August the Pentagon tested AI capable of predicting days ahead<\/a> to compete with China and Russia.<\/p>\n

In July, Eric Schmidt, the chair of the US National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence, said that China is catching up with the United States in AI<\/a> and quantum computing faster than previously expected.<\/p>\n

In March the PRC unveiled a five-year plan to accelerate the development of advanced technologies, including AI<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A week earlier, the US National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence published a report with recommendations for business and government on maintaining technological dominance<\/a> over China.<\/p>\n
