{"id":50953,"date":"2021-10-11T09:50:42","date_gmt":"2021-10-11T06:50:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=50953"},"modified":"2025-09-02T21:08:15","modified_gmt":"2025-09-02T18:08:15","slug":"blockfi-files-for-bitcoin-futures-etf-launch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/blockfi-files-for-bitcoin-futures-etf-launch\/","title":{"rendered":"BlockFi Files for Bitcoin-Futures ETF Launch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The crypto lending platform BlockFi filed an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/0001540305\/000089418921007234\/blockficombined.htm\">application<\/a> with the <span data-descr=\"Securities and Exchange Commission\" class=\"old_tooltip\">SEC<\/span> to launch an exchange-traded fund (ETF) based on CME-traded bitcoin futures and the provisions of the Investment Company Act of 1940.<\/p>\n<p>In early August, SEC Chair Gary Gensler <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/gensler-warns-of-tighter-regulation-for-defi-and-stablecoins\">stated<\/a> that an ETF meeting these conditions could be approved. In late September he <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/gensler-outlines-the-conditions-under-which-the-sec-would-approve-a-bitcoin-etf\">confirmed<\/a> this stance.<\/p>\n<p>The BlockFi Bitcoin Strategy ETF filing was the seventh to be considered under the latest SEC guidance. The platform was outpaced by <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/valkyrie-investments-files-for-bitcoin-futures-based-etf\">Valkyrie Investments<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/vaneck-files-for-bitcoin-strategy-etf\">VanEck<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/invesco-files-to-launch-bitcoin-etf-expert-surprised-by-the-circumstances\">Invesco<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/1174610\/000168386321004445\/f9424d1.htm\">ProShares<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/galaxy-digital-applies-to-launch-a-bitcoin-futures-etf-under-the-1940-act\">Galaxy Digital<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/advisorshares-applies-to-launch-a-bitcoin-futures-etf\">AdvisorShares<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In August, Bloomberg <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/bloomberg-analysts-forecast-sec-approval-of-bitcoin-etf-by-end-october\">predicted<\/a> approval by the SEC of a Bitcoin futures ETF by the end of October. At the time, the ProShares filing was seen as the frontrunner.<\/p>\n<p>On October 8, analysts put the odds for the firm at 2-to-1.
