An anonymous bidder paid 500,000 AUD<\/span> (~$362,970) in Bitcoin at an Australian auction for a classic Subaru WRX driven by rally champion Colin McRae. News.com.au<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

The car had long sat in a shed. Lloyds Auctions initially expected its price to be 15,000\u201320,000 AUD, until it emerged that it was a landmark vehicle.<\/p>\n

The Subaru was prepared by the British firm Prodrive for the World Rally Championship, helping McRae win titles.<\/p>\n

When the provenance of the auction car, which had been kept in excellent condition, was established, its estimated price exceeded 1 million AUD. However the top bid reached only half of that amount in cryptocurrency, about 7.6 BTC at the time of writing.<\/p>\n

Lloyds Auctions began accepting payments in digital assets in late June 2021.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the option to pay with cryptocurrencies was added by auction houses Sotheby\u2019s<\/a> and Phillips<\/a>.<\/p>\n
