About a third of them use Chivo, according to Mr Bukele.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u00abLess than three weeks after Bitcoin was legalized in the country, Chivo already has more users than any Salvadoran bank,\u00bb wrote the president.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Bukele conceded that the crypto wallet could outrun the audience of all the banks in the country combined.<\/p>\n<p>In June, the authorities promised <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/el-salvador-to-give-each-adult-resident-30-in-bitcoin\">to give residents $30 in bitcoin<\/a>. The authorities bought 550 BTC into the government fund to underpin the trading of the first cryptocurrency and the dollar. On September 20, El Salvador <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/el-salvadors-government-buys-150-more-btc\">bought an additional 150 BTC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/poll-majority-of-salvadorans-not-ready-to-use-bitcoin\">In July, a poll showed<\/a> that only 20% of citizens approved the president&#8217;s initiative to recognise Bitcoin as legal tender. According to another survey in September, 70% of respondents <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/poll-70-of-salvadorans-oppose-bitcoin-legalisation\">were opposed to digital gold<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/protests-erupt-in-el-salvador-over-bitcoin-legalization\">In August, Salvadorans took to the streets<\/a> protesting the legalization of Bitcoin.
