The state of the sovereign debt market is an indication that widespread use of the first cryptocurrency could have serious consequences for the country&#8221;<\/em>, \u2014 said Ben Emos, a strategist at Medley Global Advisors.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Bloomberg also cited among possible reasons for the sell-off in near-term maturities the Supreme Court&#8217;s decision to permit President Nayib Bukele to run for a second term. Human Rights Watch described the step as a &#8220;dismantling of the country&#8217;s democratic institutions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Back on Sept. 7, the Salvadoran government<a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/el-salvador-legalises-bitcoin-as-government-buys-550-btc\"> purchased 550 BTC<\/a> into a $150 million fund approved by authorities<a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/el-salvadors-parliament-approves-150-million-bitcoin-fund\"> to facilitate the exchange of bitcoin and dollars<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In August, local residents<a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/protests-erupt-in-el-salvador-over-bitcoin-legalization\"> took to the streets to protest the legalization of the first cryptocurrency<\/a>. The Salvadoran Association of International Freight Carriers called for scrapping the obligation to accept bitcoin as payment.<\/p>\n<p>According to a poll, 70% of Salvadorans<a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/poll-70-of-salvadorans-oppose-bitcoin-legalisation\"> opposed the bill<\/a>.
